EDITORIAL LETTER
As mentioned, the body of the letter is as follows :-
Respected Sir/Ma'am,
I would like to draw the attention of the authorities and the people through the esteemed column of your newspaper regarding "Crimes against senior citizens."
Recently, on 5th June 2020, a senior citizen couple: Aman Pratap Singh (M) and Seema Pratap Singh (F), was murdered in Moti Bagh, Greater Kailash Colony, Delhi. The husband was 90 years old and the wife was 87 years old. The murder was committed around 2:00 P.M. in the afternoon as reported by the police.
Their son and daughter-in-law cannot be contacted. As per the neighbors statement, they last saw them the same afternoon the crime was committed.
The autopsy is going on and the police is investigating the case. The culprit can never escape for a long time.
The family was well-off but recently according to some statements by their relatives, some cold-war was going on among the family members. They think the reason might be the ancestral property but nothing has been verified yet.
If the culprit are their own son and daughter-in-law, then I am in no surprise because of increased such cases recently. Children don't even think twice before taking such actions. Parents are our first teachers, our first love. From crawling to making us career independent, they play a vital role in our life both financially and emotionally. What is money? Will you take it with you when you die? No, right. Then why such selfish motives that you don't even think twice before killing your parents?
I am not mentioning this particular case as the culprit hasn't been found yet but such cases have happened in the past. I feel bad for those helpless parents who devoted their whole life for their children and when they are in need of love and support, their own children show their true colors.
There were even some cases of murder of senior citizens where their business rivals or their relatives murdered them for selfish motives. When a blood relation cannot see each other with love then what can be expected from outsiders?
Senior citizens are not even safe alone on the streets due to increased number of robbers in the locality.
This cannot and should not continue anymore. It is a request to the concerned authority to take adequate measures for such hideous actions. The culprits should be punished severely. Some safety guidelines and policies should be implemented for the senior citizens, where they can contact for help. Sometimes, the local police do not take crimes seriously as well, so it is a request to the government to pay heed to their system as well.
I hope my request will be considered and a strict action will be taken against it considering the seriousness due to increased number of such cases.
I hope the couple murdered recently will be served justice soon. I hope the laws serve the culprits with a serious and required punishment on an early basis.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Diksha Verma
