Rural India awaits basic amenities

A visit to the Burail village, on the outskirts of the city, is enough to burst the bubble of national progress. While the city is being developed in a ‘smart’ city, Burail is yet to get the basic amenities. The village is in a permanent state of uncleanliness and disarray.
Villagers state that they do not have a garbage disposal unit in the village. As a result, there is no garbage collection center where the garbage can be treated and disposed of. Heaps of stinking trash can be spotted every now and then. These heaps are the breeding grounds of diseases, spread by flies. The government dispensary has also been lying shut for the past few years and villagers do not have access even to basic healthcare facilities.
The local bodies need to take action promptly, to reduce the high mortality rates in the village. NGOs and volunteers can be involved to spread awareness about hygiene and sanitization. The village needs to be brought into the main stream.
