Distance between you and your mother image if you move 3 metre towards the mirror.

Calculation:

The following image characteristics by plane mirror must be remembered:

  • Image is virtual.
  • Image is erect.
  • Image is same size as that of object.
  • Image distance is equal to object distance.

Distance between me and the mirror after moving 3 m towards the mirror :

 \therefore \: d1 = 8 - 3 = 5 \: m

Now , distance of mom's image from mirror:

 \therefore \: d2 = mom \: image \: distance

 =  >  \: d2 = mom \: object \: distance

 =  >  \: d2   = (my \: distance \: from \: mirror )+ (mom \: distance \: from \: me)

 =  >  \: d2   =8+3

 =  >  \: d2   =11 \: m

So, distance between me and mom's image:

 \therefore \: d = d1 + d2

 =  > \: d = 5 + 11

 =  > \: d = 16 \: m

So , required distance = 16 m.
