You are supposed to help your village head in calculating the estimate to build a cubical water tank with closed top having the capacity of 216000 litres (1m3=1000litres). Find the inner dimensions of the water tank. The thickness of the walls is 25cm and thickness of the base is 40cm. The rate of construction of base of tank is ` 1250/ m3 and rate of construction of walls and top is 950/m3 ( including labour charge and material cost) Three jaquar taps costing 450 each are also fixed on the wall with a fixing charge of Rs.250. The entire outer surface excluding the base is covered with square tiles of length 50cm long costing Rs 360 per dozen. Labour charge for fixing tiles is Rs. 5000/- per 100m2. What will be the total expenditure in constructing such a water tank? The village is having a population of 4000 persons, each requires 18 litres of water per day. For how many days will the water of this tank last?

Answer:

  1. the inner dimension=

volume of cube = a³=216000

so, a=60 m

2. total expenditure in constructing such a water tank,

volume of cuboid=lbh= 60×60×25=90,000

amount required to construct 1 m³ = 950 rs

hence, amount for constructing walls = 950×90000=

401
