You are the sports custodian in your school and you have to arrange a tennis match for 16 players for the monsoon season. If there can be no draws how many games must be played if each player can be eliminated by one loss?​

To Find : how many games must be played if each player can be eliminated by one loss  

(A) 12 games

(B) 14 games

(C) 16 games

(D) 15 games

Solution:

A simple thought out of 16 , 15 players to be eliminated

each player get eliminated in 1 match

Hence 15 matches required

Detailed method :

1st 8 matches will eliminate 8 player

now next 4 matches will eliminate 4 players

next 2 matches will eliminate 2 players

next 1 match is Final  

8 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 15 Matches

15 games must be played if each player can be eliminated by one loss
