The protest was against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) , in Tamil Nadu. This statement was said by  activists from West Bengal (Paramaaanu Bidyut Birodhi Aandolan) in a letter addressed in the year 2011 to then  Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh

Explanation:

  • This letter was addressed  in the year to the then Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh  asking him as to how the Prime Minister go be so complacent in going ahead with the nuclear energy project at Koodankulam and how a Prime Minister assigned with the nation's overall well-being ignores the issue of the inherent risks of nuclear power technology & complacently write to the the Tamil Nadu Govt in reply to the protests against the nuclear project by the local people against the Tamil Nadu Govt.
  • The activists questions the Prime Minister as to how the Prime Minister can write that the  "Nuclear power is one way to improve the energy security," and that t he Central Govt will see to it that the peace, health and welfare of citizens are completely protected. "And" that the Prime Minister is counting the Tamil Nadu Govt's help to assure the speedy completion and on time delivery  of the Koodankulam project.
  • Furthermore the activists questions the Prime Minister's outright chilling is the nonchalance with which the PM wrote that "the safety record of  India's 335 reactor-years of service at our nuclear plants was strong". The activists replies that "such a assertion, completely disregarded by evidence by the PM must be founded on pure ignorance, especially, when India has been faced with nuclear disasters.
  • Furthermore the activists states that the there are  serious questions posed by Russian government agencies themselves concerning Russian reactors (that are being used in the Koodankulam Project), especially  In view of the Fukushima Daiichi disaster in Japan where these reactors were used for nuclear power plant and these issues become especially urgent.
  • Furthermore the activists states that the PM Indeed, in his letter indicates very clearly that he does not want to hear why he has dedicated himself to the folly of nuclear expansion. Does the PM not  know  that while we (India) are facing an enormous power in nuclear technology, we are also faced with an immense destructive potential.
  • As people and stakeholders in the welfare of this country, they have no trust in the PM's wisdom in this matter and has asked the PM  to take heed  of  the voices of the residents the villages and stop the project right on its tracks! The activists want protection against the radioactive threat of TN coast and region!  Like how these activists had prevented in West Bengal a similar nuclear project  plans of the DAE in Haripur, the activists assures the PM they would   continue to help the Tamil Nadu people in the war against camouflage destruction of Koodankulam Nuclear Project
