Divide both sides by 4
=> 4(p – 7) /4 = 44/4
=> (p - 7) = 11
=> p - 7 = 11
Add 7 both sides
=> p - 7 + 7 = 11 + 7
=> p = 18
Another method :
4(p – 7) = 44
apply distributive property on LHS
=> 4p - 4 x 7 = 44
=> 4p - 28 = 44
add 28 both sides
=> 4p - 28 + 28 = 44 + 28
=> 4p = 72
