you ate bread in the morning. starting fron the mouth , explain how it was digested?
Answers
After putting the bread in the mouth, the following processes will occur:
• At first the teeth in the mouth helps in chewing the bread.
The saliva softens it.
The amylase enzyme present in the saliva breaks down the starch present in the food.
• The chewed bolus then moves through the food pipe by the movement of muscles.
A flap called the epiglottis prevents the passage of food into the wind pipe.
• The food then reaches the stomach, gets mixed with HCl and further gets digested by the action of pepsin enzyme.
• The food then passes through the duodenum to the small intestine.
In duodenum, the bile juice from liver contains a cocktail of enzymes that break down the food particles and change the pH of the mixture.
• The small intestines have villi on the inner lining. These villi absorb the nutrients from the food.
• As the food passes through the large intestine, the water content gets absorbed.
The leftover become faeces and gets stored in the rectum.
The muscles of the rectum contract to push the faecal matter out of the body through the anus.
Anus marks the end of the digestive tract in the body.
