Having returned from my first 5 day himalayan trek, my big toes were both swollen, one of them was watering and turning blue, my leg calves muscles were sore.... my entire body felt heavy .... But My heart and soul felt light and at unusual peace......here I was in one piece, safe and alive, SARPASS RETURN!
Well my body was in pain but my fingers couldn’t stop writing my story of SARPASS.......
Now what exactly is Sarpass and what is the big deal in doing this particular trek?
So the story began with my fascination with wild nature. I love mountains, forests, streams, sheep. Being a fan of Heidi and swiss Alps, my opinion and thoughts about mountains were all tinted in rose glasses and very fairytale like...I fancied camping under the star studded night sky, sharing ghost stories around the campfire, washing my feet in mountain streams and walking in the woods.......all this sounded like a perfect setting out of a fairytale dream....the only difference being in reality, it turned out to be a nightmare!!!!! Camping in the tent under the stars also means having to freeze in extremely cold climates at night, having no space to stretch your body, feeling suffocated and claustrophobic and having sleepless night waiting for the morning to arrive! However, this particular nightmare also made me tough for life and made me grateful and appreciate the finer things in life that we tend to so easily take for granted in city life........
So how did Sarpass happen?
Sarpass is a Himalayan trek that lasts for 5 days where you walk over 10-12 kms every day to finally reach Sarpass- which is a Himalayan Mountain Range at 14,000 feet! So in all you cover 60 kms on foot to reach a aheight of 14000 feet!
Now, my colleague Suraj (24yrs) who was a seasoned trekker and frequent camping guy dreamt of doing SARPASS! And me (36 yrs) and my other female colleague(Jelly-33yrs) jumped at the idea! It was being organised by HIMTREK- a guy who organises Himalayan Treks and the cost was simply Rs. 7000/- Woah! Having done the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra for 15 days with Sadhguru for 3 lakhs, this seemed like a dream! With travel and food, the cost would come upto 15,000 Rs. max for 11 days! NOW WHICH FOOL WOULD MISS SUCH AN OPPORTUNITY?
