you can see some blood vessels on the outside of hands specially in older people .Are those viens or arteries . how can you confirm your answer

Another test you can perform is the milking test that shows the direction of flow of blood in the vessel. Arteries allow flow in both directions, but due to the pumping force produced by the heart they flow in one direction only; whereas veins have valves which restrict flow to only one direction. The milking test is performed by blocking both sides of the vein after emptying it. Then each end is opened - if the vessel fills with any end open, then it is an artery, if it fills only if a specific end is opened, then it is a vein.
