I think we should keep it secret for a while. Talk to him nicely, make him comfortable and later on after some days he will be okay. Then we can discuss the problem with our elders and they will surely find a way out.

If you know it first oh all go and meet him ..
don't ask any question that make him/her embarrass 
and tell him the way you are going is wrong
make him/her to forget what is  past
he has done .. and try to make him focus in studies
