You decide to buy presents for a local charity who gives presents to an orphanage. Work out how many rolls of the wrapping paper required to be wrapped and how much will it cost. Prepare a report to plan the task considering the following points:
Important information
• Wrapping paper costs $2.25 for 1 m2 of paper in one roll. (It is sold in 1 unit of roll only. You can’t buy some part of the roll)
• You will need to add an extra 30% on to your total surface area of all the presents in order to fold and seal each present with tape!
Dimensions of the presents
• 10 presents in a cube shape of 15.5 cm across
• 16 presents in a cuboid shape of dimensions 18cm x 12cm x 23 cm
Tasks
1. Identify at least 3 relevant mathematical factors you will consider for buying the wrapping paper.
2. Calculate the total surface area of each set of presents (all cubes and all cuboids separately) and find the total amount of paper needed in cm2 for both the presents together.
3. Use this information to find the number of rolls of paper you will need.
4. The shop is running a discount sale of 15% on the price of paper. Find the cost of complete wrapping paper after discount.
5. Explain the degree of accuracy of your solution referring to Tasks 3 and 4.
