You decide to colour a sheet of paper with various colours. If you colour 1/6 of it with orange,1/3 with green and 2/7 with blue, how much of your original paper is left uncoloured?

The sheet was 1/6 th part coloured orange.

Therefore the left over part is 1 - 1/6 = 5/6

The 1/3rd leftover sheet was painted green this time.

Then The balance is 5/6 - 1/3 = (5 - 2)/ 6 = 3/6 or 1/2

Lastly, the 1/2nd part was again painted 2/7th part with blue.

Then part of sheet left uncoloured= 1/2 - 2/7

by cross multiplication = [(1×7) - (2×2)] ÷ 2×7

= (7 - 4) ÷ 14

= 3/14
