The answer is 6 km

GIVEN

Distance travelled to north = 8.0 km

Displacement = 10 km

TO FIND

Distance travlled to east.

SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

Let the starting point = O

Distance travelled to north = OA = 8 km

Distance travelled to east = AB

Displacement = BO = 10km

Applying pythagorus theorem in ΔOAB

BO² = OA² + AB²

100 = 64 + AB²

AB² = 36

AB = 6km

Hence, The answer is 6 km
