The Eyes Have it

The Eyes Have it is a short and interesting story by the renowned writer Ruskin Bond.

The story is written in the first person narrative. The narrator is a blind boy travelling all by himself in a train to Dehra and then to Mussourie. The circumstances in the story bear an autobiographical streak.

As the narrator is all alone in the railway coach a girl enters at the station called Rohana. Ironically she too is blind which the narrator discovers much later after she has left.

The narrator is taken up by her perfume and the way she speaks. So he wants to start a conversation. Knowing fully well that girls love to be flattered about their looks he tells the girl that she has an interesting face.

The girl however does not get pleased with the flattery. She instead retorts that she is very much tired of listening to the same compliment. In fact she would like to hear something different for a change.

Explanation:

This one drives a lot of people crazy, including me.

In fact, it’s so prevalent among bloggers that I once feared I was missing something, and somehow “loose” was a proper substitute for “lose” in some other English-speaking countries. Here’s a hint: it’s not.

If your pants are too loose, you might lose your pants.
