The conference on 'preventing enviroment pollution ' was held in the huge auditorium in Mumbai. It was attended by dignitaries from over 50 countries. There were five speakers who are masters in the subject and have been working in the field for more than 30 years.
They all felt that man has done wonders in the field of science and technology this has affected common man's life immensely. Gadgets are the fashion of the day. They are in the limelight. No sphere of life is left untouched by gadgets. At the office, computers, and other advanced electronic equipment have made office life much easier.

Students have a much easier way to access knowledge with the help of gadgets. Calculators, mobile phones, television, have become the most demanded items of the day. Everyone, from a  villager to the city dweller has some gadget or the other which is of utmost importance to him. Even the scientists have made advancements with the help of gadgets. The craze for gadgets seems to be expanding day by day.

But the world's obsession with tech toys creates electronic waste which is also known as e-waste. It is created when people discard the electronic products which are nearing their end of life, like cell phones, computers, TV sets and other electronic goods. This kind of waste is considered harmful to the environment on varying levels. It contains toxins like lead, mercury and lithium. When these goods are thrown away these toxins get released into the environment and cause damage to the earth.

They emphasized the fact that the impact of the modern transport and telecommunication is not very good for the environment. Its influence on the rural and urban population is also not very conducive.

The transportation system creates air pollution and contributes to global warming. As you are aware, many environmentalists are asking for a transition from air and road to rail and human powered transport. There is a need to increase transport electrification and energy efficiency.

The negative impact on health is also a matter of concern. Recent studies have shown that noise and carbon monoxide emissions have direct and indirect effects which are harmful. Therefore there is a need to become eco friendly.

Eco friendly means living in such a way that we cause the least harm to the environment. Eco friendly products promote green living which helps to conserve energy and prevent air, water and noise pollution. They are a boon to the environment and prevent a deterioration in human health. To become eco friendly:

1. Learn to consume items that cause minimal environmental harm.

2. Discover the extent of your carbon footprint and act to lessen that footprint on the environment.

3. Strive to support others who try to live and produce eco friendly and sustainable communities.

So to live in a eco friendly way reuse items for different purposes instead of disposing them, conserve water and electricity, plant more trees, protect local water sources, drive less walk more, buy energy efficient products, buy locally grown products, prevent littering, buy recycled products and join environmental groups to combat pollution.

I spoke in favour of the environmental movement. I put forward the idea of sustainable management of resources and the need to look after the environment through changes in public policy and individual behaviour. I emphasized the point that humanity is a participant in the ecosystems.           Towards the end everyone came to a consensus to take suitable measures to become eco friendly.

The conference was about the ways how the pollution can be prevented. The conference highlighted the points which cause pollution and stressed over them so that people should be careful. Environmental pollution was defined as the undesirable change in physical, chemical and biological characteristics of our air, land, and water. As the population is increasing and the trend in urbanization is also increasing which increased the number of industries worldwide because that lead to more demand in goods and more demand means more resources are being utilized and in order to acquire those resources the human activities leads to pollution the use of machinery and deforestation is also a contributor towards pollution.

Pollution is generally grouped under two classes:

1) Biodegradable: this includes domestic waste, urine, faucal, paper, old clothes etc.

2) Non-Biodegradable: this includes insecticides, pesticides, radioactive waves etc.

Other pollution types are noise pollution, water pollution, air pollution and soil pollution. Because of urbanization, the noise pollution has increased within a short span of time. Certain gasses in the environment which are released from the cars they mix with air and the air we breathe in becomes very unhealthy to breath which causes various diseases for example asthma, cancer etc.

Acid rain is also a result of pollution and sources of water pollution are factories, power plants, coal mines, they discharge the waste in water directly. Which affects the sea life and the fish, affecting our source of food.

After the points were discussed how the pollution is spreading in the environment, the ways to control the pollution were also discussed. Following are the ways which were discussed:

1) Prevention and Control of water, it was explained that sewage should be treated properly.

2) Soil erosion should be controlled, it's an action of unwise mankind actions, it affects the food grown on soil, to prevent this the overgrazing should be avoided, variety should be encouraged so that different plants can grow

3) Noise pollution can be prevented by installing noise barriers so the noise can be prevented from reaching to residential areas.

The conference showed how important it is to protect the environment before it starts getting worse. Disposing of the waste properly by installing compost bins. The carry bags should be reused rather than throwing them away. The burning of waste should be prohibited, usage of unleaded petrol should be encouraged. Public transport should be used and walking and cycling should also be encouraged because it can also help us keep fit.

It was a good experience overall and I think such conferences should be held once in a while to create awareness among people and it can help people know about the ways to deal with the growing problem of pollution.
