Apropos ‘It’s getting worse for Xi Jinping’ (March 28), the complacency in the initial days of the corona outbreak and the opacity in the distribution of information has cost Xi Jinping his credibility. If it was not for China’s selfish attempts to conceal information, the coronavirus, in all likeliness, would not have exacerbated into a pandemic. An evident fiasco, China’s misgovernance has cost lives, livelihoods and economies. Most countries are in a state of lockdown. This incident is an important lesson for the citizens of India — favour only those governments that are transparent with regard to communication of information.

Stand by one another
Refer to ‘Sorry, had no option but lockdown’ (March 30); the government is hustling to create a system for providing essentials to people and ensure the supply chain of products. This is a challenging time for all, be it the rich or poor, but it is more difficult for daily wage-earners who are struggling for even one meal a day. It is the moral responsibility of every citizen to help one another and follow social distancing. It is vital to not have emotional distance with people around.

My Dear friend,
Hello! How are you doing? I hope you are well and everyone is safe and doing well. As we know coronavirus is rapidly spreading around the world, most people are still confined to their homes. Schools, and offices have remained shut for weeks now. While some have lost their jobs, others are struggling to earn their daily bread amidst the lockdown.
Most of the major events and conferences such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), Facebook’s annual conference, and the World Athletics Indoor Championships stand cancelled. Several countries have tightened their borders and restricted the issuance of visas. ‘Work from home’ and ‘social distancing’ have become the new norm in everyone’s lives.
In the thick of all the gloom and doom, there is a silver lining. Mother earth seems to have rejuvenated itself – smog has given way to blue skies, marine life is seeing increased activity, pollution levels have dropped, and animals as well as birds are moving about on their own accord.
After the state of emergency was introduced, the only thing I am allowed to do is go out for 15 minutes through my block to walk. The first thing I do when I get up is to do some exercise and yoga. The rest of the morning is spent in housekeeping.
After lunch, I take a nap for about an hour. Then I do some reading, and talking on the phone with family and friends. After dinner, I watch movies or series on both Netflix and Amazon Prime. Local television is impossible to watch as the channels are always talking about COVID-19. I work on my routine like never before.
I hope, we will meet after the lockdown. Till then stay safe and healthy. Do write back soon. I'm waiting for your reply.
