Dear Suruchi

We haven’t seen each other in a long time. You live down home in Noida. I live in Nangloi. I was hoping I would get to catch up with you at the end of March, when I should have been home celebrating my mother’s 45th birthday and Mother’s Day with my family. Instead, because of coronavirus, we have all been self-isolating in our own homes and I don’t know when, if ever, I will see you again.

You see, I have only recently learned that you have been symptoms of Covid-19 and the prognosis isn’t good. I called your father, to verify what I had heard. Unfortunately, the rumours were true. Your father told me that your you are suffering from high fever, sore throat and weakness. I couldn’t believe it. How could this be happening? I tried to comfort your father and to placate him, as people placated me when I was given this very same news two month ago.

This time none of your friends can visit and sit with you and spend precious time with you. None of your father’s friends can take him out for a pint to get him out of the house and forget about what lies ahead even just for a little while.

You and your family must deal with this awful situation separated from all of your family and friends, who can only drop dinners and shopping at the door and talk through windows at a distance because your immune system is compromised and you already have enough to deal with without having to worry about catching coronavirus.

When the first few cases of Coronavirus were detected in Delhi, none of us expected it to be the hotspot of the virus.

The announcement was certainly well-timed, as just a few days later, the govt of India announced the lockdown on March 22nd.

The first few days went by as normally as it could. In fact, I was happy that I and my husband would now get to spend ample time together.

We are trying to add some fun elements into our lives by binge-watching Netflix, Amazon Prime and it is surely giving us a large dose of entertainment.

Having said that, we tend to make our household chores fun-filled as well. What’s more, my experiment of making chocolate ice cream turned out to be great; thereby giving me the confidence in trying my hand at baking as well.

Besides, the period of this lockdown allowed me to keep in touch with my creative side. Despite being a passionate writer, I didn’t ever have time to contribute to personal blogging.

This is very tough time for Delhi and NCR, cases are continually increasing, Hospital’s situations are very worst, so I advise to you, please take care yourself, don’t go anywhere, put mask and wash your hand in every 30 minutes. I observed that, people are not taking it seriously, they even don’t put mask when they go outside from home, they are not maintain social distancing as well, like this how can we win fight against Corona virus.

I realize this extended lockdown has taken a toll on many, but, from where I see the world needs time to reboot and we should just wait for its grand opening again.

LETTER TO A FRIEND DESCRIBING FEELINGS AND OBSERVATIONS ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND ME SINCE LOCKDOWN BECAUSE OF CORONA VIRUS.

A-67, Santa Apartment,

Greater Noida.

7th July, 2020

Dear Friend,

Hope you are doing well and staying safe in the pandemic. Imposing of lockdown by government gave different experiences to people of different sectors of society.

While some enjoyed lockdown staying at home with enough resources, on the other hand some faced extreme difficult circumstances.

I hope you're taking proper precautions in this pandemic. Due to this pandemic disease, many people lost their precious life. It's being more risky day by day.

It's a heartfelt message, that feel blessed to wake up on your comfy bed every morning. There are people urging to find bed to live atleast a day. It's the worst circumstances at present, even when recovery rate has increased.

While in my locality, people are aware of WHO guidelines and following social distancing so well.

I know you're busy in attending online classes at your college. I hope you also did enjoy the last three months with your family.

Yours Lovingly,

Raun Fatima.
