you have been given three test tube one of one of them has distilled water and one of the remaining two one has an acid and the second has a basic solution if you have only red litmus paper then how will you identify the nature of the solution in each of the test tube?

First the red litmus paper will be taken and be dipped in all the three test tubes. It will be observed that the red litmus paper will turn blue in any one of the three test tubes, which will show us that it contains basic solution. Then that blue litmus paper will be dipped in other two test tubes. The one which will turn the blue litmus to again red is an acidic solution. And the remaining one is distilled water which shows no change in colour of the litmus paper.

If the colour of red litmus does not change then it is acid. If the colour of red litmus changes to blue then it is base. If there is slight change in the colour of red litmus (such as purple) then it is distilled water.
