You have been given three test tubes. One of them has distilled water and of the remaining
two, one has an acid and the second has a basic solution. If you only have red litmus paper
then how will how identify the nature of solutions in each of the test tubes? plz help me guys
Answers
Explanation:
Add few drops of solution from all three test tubes on the red litmus paper separately. The solution which turns red litmus to blue contains basic solution. Use this blue litmus paper to test the solutions in other two test tubes. The solution from the test tube which turns blue litmus paper to red will be the acidic solution and solution of the test tube which do not change either red or blue litmus paper contain water.

Answer:
Hello friend here is your answer
If on putting the red litmus paper in distilled water there will be no change.
On putting it in basic solution the red litmus paper will turn blue.
On putting it in acidic solutions the red litmus paper will remain red. Yes if you would have used blue litmus paper and put it in acid solution it would have turned red.
Thus these colour changes will prove the nature of the solutions because litmus is a common-acid base indicator.
