( you are allowed to pour out water from the can). If the cans had capacities 8 and 6 litres respectively, could you collect 5 liters?

3 liters of water from a tap can be collected.

5 liters of water from a tap cannot be collected.

Given:

  • 1st case.
  • Cans with capacities 9 and 5 liters respectively.
  • 2nd case.
  • Cans had capacities 8 and 6 liters respectively,

To find:

  • 1st case.
  • How can you collect 3 liters of water from a tap?
  • 2nd case.
  • Could you collect 5 liters.

Explanation:

  • For 1st case,
  • Take 9 liters water remove 5 liters from it remaining is 4 liters.
  • Add another 9 liters water remove 5 liters from it remaining is 8 liters.
  • Finally remove 5 liters of water from 8 liters we can obtain 3 liters of water.
  • For 2nd case,
  • It is not possible to obtain 5 liters of water because Both can had even liters capacity.
