If I have given a red litmus paper than
1)if I put that paper in any one of the solution and if it changes it colour from red to blue then it is a basic solution
as red litmus paper will not show any color change in other solution.
2)now From the first step we well get a blue litmus paper, now if we put this paper in one of the solution add if it changes it color from blue to red then the solution is acidic solution.
as blue litmus paper will not show any colour change in distilled water.
3) after these two steps we will get acidic add basic solution
so the remaining solution is distilled water
I hope it will help you

Put the given red litmus paper in each of the three test tubes. The solution which turns the red litmus paper to blue is basic.
Now, put this blue litmus paper in the remaining two test tubes. The one which turns it red again is acidic.
The test tube which has no effect on either red or blue litmus paper is distilled water.
Hope this helps......
