Michael stone was a famous pole-vaulter . He had participated in the National Junior Olympics . He was to cross beyond 17' , which was three inches higher than his personal best . The stadium was filled with crowds . Actually it was his ambition to fly as high as a two-storeyed building .

His father was his mentor and his mother gave him encouragement to make his dream a reality . His mother used to say the stories to encourage and his father used to say the importance of hard work. From his fourteenth year Michael Stone had started practising with the help of his coach , trainer who was none other than his father . His father made Stone determined , dedicated and well disciplined . He thought that this would be at a test for his practice .

He came to know about the other competitors . He became nervous , which he never had . He took the pole and stood. All the people watching became silent . He started running down the runway and felt like the country road he used to dream about . His take-off was effortless and could cross the bar. He later went on to clear 17' 6½" . All the people surrounded him . Michael Stone was actually a blind man and it was the amazing factor in this story .
