Materials:

glass of water

10 raisins

Procedure:

Put your raisins inside a glass of water. Leave the raisins in the water for a whole day.

What do you notice about the raisins now that they have been in water for several hours? The raisins should have expanded and filled with water.

Why?

Because water moved into the raisin, we know that the raisins’ skins are semi-permeable membranes. During osmosis, water moves to an area of lesser water concentration. The raisins did not have very much water inside, so the water from the glass moved through the skin and filled the raisins.

Extension:

Ask students if they know what fruit raisins are originally grown as. In their journals, ask students to explain how raisins are made, including the word osmosis in their explanations at least once.

it is in form of experiment.

it may be useful for you dear one...
