You have just read the news item in a newspaper and feel quite upset to learn about the ill-treatment of foreign tourists. You feel the incident is quite contrary to the age old tradition of “Atithi Devo Bhava”.

Write a letter in about 100-120 words to the editor of a newspaper condemning the incident.

Subject: Increasing insecurity of foreign tourists

Sir:

I am writing to your esteemed self to express my deep anguish and concern over the problem of increasing incidents of cheating, unfair dealings, robbing, molestation, murders, and general harassment of foreign tourists in India! Every other day the news about such ghastly incidents sends shivers down my spine. How shameful that we are ill-treating our guests! On one hand the Government has launched ‘Incredible India’ and ‘Athiti Devo Bhava’ campaigns to promote tourism in the country, on the other hand such despicable and horrible atrocities are being inflicted upon the tourists! What are the Government and people doing?

These crimes and ill-treatment against the foreign tourists are a stain on the image of our nation. What kind of image are we building among the people of other nations of the world? We are the losers in the bargain. These foreign tourists are the backbone of the tourism and hospitality industry and the sundry other industry related to tourism. Such incidents will definitely affect them adversely. I appeal to the Government and the people of our country to take strict action against the culprits who abuse and offend foreign as well as local tourists. The Government must provide better security along with other facilities to the tourists. Through the medium of your esteemed daily I appeal to the concerned authorities to look into the grievances.

Thanking you,

Yours truly,

Namisha
