I am not sure that picking a place in the mythical world makes sense since this would just amount to fulfilling a fantasy and that is not the spirit of the question.

Looking at history, an easy pick is Rome at the apex of its expansion. Judging by what is left of it, it must have been an amazing place to visit/observe, not to mention witnessing how it was being built, given that many of its results would be quite challenging to accomplish, even today.

Edit: I was asked to be more specific as to what I would enjoy witnessing in ancient Rome: An easy choice would be the building of the Colosseum, but just walking around the ancient forum and experiencing its design as well as the daily happenings would be truly mind-blowing (for me
