Answer:

"The Duck and the Kangaroo" by Edward Lear is about two friends -- a duck and a kangaroo.

Once, the duck, while staying motionless in a small pond for a long period of time, saw his friend Kangaroo passing by. The Duck interrupts the Kangaroo and asks for help. He declares that he has become tired of staying in a small pond for a long time. Further, he also expresses his dire wish to have a glimpse of the world outside the water body. He appraises the Kangaroo on his hopping skills and desperately craves for the same.

After praising the Kangaroo, the duck entreats him to give him a ride on the back. He apprises him that they would go to various imaginary places like "Jelly-bo-lee" and the "Dee". Adding, he also made a point that he won't disturb the Kangaroo and would just be with his usual "Quack". This all makes the Kangaroo ponder about it.

After the duck briefs his desire and wishes, the Kangaroo exclaims that this journey would bring luck to him but he would agree to the duck's demands only if he gets rid of his cold wet feet that pose a threat to him. Moreover, the moist webbed-feet of duck could give him diseases like "Roo-matiz" leading to complications during the journey.

On hearing the Kangaroo's objection the duck, firmly remarks that he was already prepared for any such issues. He had brought four pairs of worsted socks to keep his web-feet free from moisture and also a coat to keep his body warm. This, overall, would not cause any trouble to the Kangaroo. Besides, he also said that he did so because he really loved the kangaroo and always acknowledged him as his true friend.

The kangaroo, with no objections, happily agrees to take his friend on his back to fulfill the duck's desire. However, he advises the duck to sit on his tail and be still to tackle any imbalance. They start their journey in the moonlight advancing happily and travel the whole world three times round.
