You have studied mitosis in onion root tip cells. It has 16 chromosomes in each cell. Can you tell how many chromosome will the cell have at G1 phase , after S phase , and after M phase ? Also , what will be the DNA content of the cells at G1 , after S and at G2 , if the content after M phase in 2C ?

After the study of the mitosis in the onion root tips cells, it is found that there is 16 chromosomes in each cell.

EXPLANATION:

So for, the G1 phase the chromosomes have 16 and also for the S phase there should be 16 chromosomes and for the M phase also there will be 16 chromosome.

So the DNA content of the cells at the G1 phase will be 2c and after the S will be 4c and at the G2 phase it will be 4C.

Answer:

Explanation:

For the first part: The number of chromosomes the cell will have after G1 phase is 16, after S phase is also 16  and after M  phase the number of chromosome will be 32 (i.e. 16 in both daughter cell). This is because during these phases DNA content is doubled not the chromosome number.

For the second part:Here, they are asking for the DNA content ,and as mentioned above during s phase DNA content doubles so,at G1 PHASE THE DNA content will be 2C ,after S phase the DNA content will be 4C   and at G2 phase the DNA content will be 4C.

I hope it helps :)
