Given,

Quoted price of first book seller :

a) Rs. 2882 for a dozen books

b) Rs. 97 for a dozen pens.

Quoted price of second book seller :

a) Rs. 1621 for 10 books

b) Rs. 118 for 10 pens

To find,

The preferable seller.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process.

Now, we need to calculate the per piece rate, and find which seller is providing individual pen and book at cheaper rate.

Rate of a book from first seller = 2882/12 = Rs. 240.16

Rate of a pen from first seller = 97/12 = Rs. 8.08

Total rate = (240.16+8.08) = Rs. 248.12

Rate of a book from second seller = 1621/10 = Rs. 162.1

Rate of a pen from the second seller = 118/10 = Rs. 11.8

Total rate = (162.1+11.8) = Rs. 173.9

So, for 1 book and 1 pen combo, the rate of second seller is cheaper and if we need to purchase books and pens of same numbers, then obviously the second seller is more preferable.

Hence, the second seller is preferable.
