you have to keep pushing on a box to keep it sliding on a surface. why?

due to frictional force

We have to keep pushing on a box to keep it sliding because there is a force of friction always acting on the object which follows the rule that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. As we put some force frictions tends to stop it so we have apply regular force on it.
