You have two containers, A and B, filled with equal quantities of water. The temperature of container A is 70 degree Celsius and that of B is 90 degree Celsius. Container A is long and narrow and container B is wide and shallow in which of the two containers, will the evaporation rate be more and why?

Answer:

In beaker B the evaporation rate will be more. Here is why

Explanation:

Evaporation rate depends on surface area of the liquid and the temperature of the liquid .The temperature of the liquid is directly proportional to evaporation rate i.e., the more the temperature faster the rate of evaporation. Here the beaker B has a higher temperature than beaker A so the evaporation is faster in beaker B . The surface area of the liquid is also directly proportional to the evaporation rate . More the surface area faster rate of evaporation.
