You have two solutions,A and B the pH of solution A is 6 and pH of solution B is 8b which solution has more hydrogen ion concentration?
which of these is acidic and which one is basic
Answers
Out of the two solutions A and B, Solution A will have more hydrogen ion concentration because of the relation:
So, According to this relation, Greater the concentration of H+ ions, lesser is the value of pH and more acidic is the solution. Solution A is having lesser pH as compared to B, so it has more H+ ions.
✿ And we know that, pH is an universal indicator which helps to determine whether a substance is acidic or basic. Also, it helps us to determine its strength.
- pH scale is a scale for measuring hydrogen ion concentration, and from that only we can also determine hydroxyl ion concentration.
HOW TO DETERMINE?
- For neutral solution, pH = 7
- For acidic solution pH < 7
- For basic solution pH > 7
So, As the pH of solution A is less than 7, it is acidic in nature. And, pH of solution B is more than 7, it is basic in nature.

In our daily life, we use the applications of pH value several times like:
- Soil with low pH are bad for the growth of plants and soil organisms.
- Due to change in pH of mouth, tooth decay acan occur which is due to the action of bacteria.
- When there is drop in pH of stomach, indigestion can occur. To prevent it, we use antacids.
- Many plants and animals secrete acidic or basic stings which is irritating and can cause swelling. For relief we use mild bases or acids accordingly for neutalization.
☘ Do you know? Hairs of Nettle plant contains an acid known as Methanoic acid which cause burning sensation and pain when it is pricked in our body. But, surprisingly !! an another plant known as Dock plant, which grows naturally besides it whose leaf can cool down the area and relieves the pain.
