How I Won A Prize?
The hard-earned joys are the sweetest. One such joy I experienced last week as
a result of one month long sweating and slogging for the Inter-School
Declamation Contest in our city.
It all started at the beginning of last month. My English teacher approached me
in the middle of my Chemistry class. Seeing the papers in her hand, I
immediately guessed why she had so earnestly called me out of the class. She said,
‘Our school has received an invitation to participate in the Inter-School
Declamation Contest in our city, and the Principal has asked me to prepare you
for the same. I want you to win the competition', she continued, ‘Here is the
list of topics, let me know which topic you want to prepare. I will give you
the script tomorrow.'
There were quite a many interesting topics. However, I selected the topic 'It is better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all.' The teacher gave me an inspiring script for the speech. I was given three free periods to prepare for the speech everyday until the contest. I read the script hundreds of time. The English teacher would hear me speak 5 times every day, correct my pronunciation, instruct me on modulation as the speech demanded. Thus word by word, sentence by sentence I perfected my speech. Principal also heard my speech in her office and gave me some invaluable tips. A day before the Declamation Contest, I was asked to deliver my speech in the morning assembly. The entire school responded to the ending of my speech with clapping thunder! It enthused me with confidence and self-belief.
The morning of the competition arrived. I along with my teacher reached the host school's auditorium. I didn’t feel nervous a bit. When my turn came, I just gave a flawless rendition. I received a standing ovation from the audience. At the end, the judges declared the result. I jumped out of my chair three feet high, when my name was announced as the first runner up. I was very happy. Though I was expecting the first prize, even the second prize gave me a lot of contentment. I received a cash prize of rupees 10000 along with a trophy and a certificate.
At my own school I was overwhelmed with congratulations. I was applauded in the morning assembly next day. My own school also awarded me rupees 10000. Thus I had enough money to buy a new laptop for me.Answer:
I participated in a debate competition and got a large amount of money as the first prize. I am really happy and excited. At first I was a little nervous as I thought I cannot participate in such competitions, but my parents motivated me and boosted me. I was feeling confident and eas ready and at last I got the first position. I got ₹1,00,000 as the first prize. For this competition I have to be prepared so I studied my topics at least 10 times so that I wouldn't make any mistake on the stage. It was a challenging task. But interesting too. I studied at least 5 hours for the competition and I have to manage my school studies so I have to work hard. This time was not to waste in things like games, television as these things are available after all these too. But the competitions are limited. I have worked hard but my parents also have worked hard. When I was studying my parents checked my progress, told me how to memorise the topics and the information. They listened my topics several times. They were my motivators when I thought to back out. This was a national competition. Students from all over the country came to this competition. I started from school level, then district, state and then the final national level and got the first prize. I am still thinking that I've been chosen as first. I am really excited. All my relatives are congratulating and wishing me. My best friends are also happy and my competitors are not happy but they have to show the emotion. As we all know it is really difficult but I did but only because of my parents' motivation. And now about prize money. I have gave the money to my parents and they said that this will be contributed in my higher studies. He said this will help me in future. And we will donate some money in an orphangae and some in an NGO. My parents are really happy and they are proud of me. I am really lucky to get the first prize. I wish I pass all the obstacles like this and live a successful and pleasant life.
