I would suggest the either the method of writing letters or email by a nearby cyber cafe.

Explanation:

• If that freind of mine lives in a remote area within a undeveloped rural area with not much shops or any cyber cafe's around him I would suggest him to write letters for communicating with me or any other person he wants to check in on from time to time and I would sure not forget to write back to him as well.
• If he lives close to a cyber cafe or a printing shop or a ticket booking office. I would ask him to approach there and write emails from time to time to talk to his/her's freinds or family. Since, letters take time to reach the receiver and conversation is long derailed which vanishes the feeling of an actual conversation.
