It is a popular saying that a person sleeping under the sun with his legs in the shade in Ladakh would suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at the same time and it is absolutely true. The reason behind it is the unique and extreme geographical location of Ladakh.

Explanation:

Ladakh is a land surrounded by high mountains.

In the eastern side, it is surrounded by the mighty Himalayas, while in the north by Karakoram Range and in the South by Zanskar mountains.

The mountains makes the temperature extremely low and it receives very scarce rainfall, therefore it is a cold desert.

Due to the proximity of snow clad mountains, the wind here is extremely chilly capable of giving a frostbite, but so thin that it doesn't reduces the intensity of sunlight.

Therefore a person exposed to such situations can suffer from frostbite and sunstroke at the same time in Ladakh.
