It is related to pressure ... You know very well This concept __ PRESSURE IS INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO AREA .
AND , when you don't kept a piece of cloths on head it's hard to carry a basket because our head is less area than a twist piece of cloths And acquired a more pressure and HARD to carry .

And , when clothes kept area is increased and pressure is less and easy to carry vegetables .

We know that objects Havung large area apply less pressure, while objects having small area can apply much pressure.

Here actually the tied cloth on head will simply reduce the whole basket weight equally in all directions and thus don't give any pain to their head.

In simple words it just reduces the weight and applied pressure by basket on head.
