Life of a Rag Picker
Oh, it is already four in the morning! I am half an hour late in waking up. Must rush for work. How I wish Mother was alive, I could at least get some hot tea! Life is so difficult. From morning to dusk we, the rag pickers have to be out, picking up all useful waste we can come across.
Rummaging through rubbish is no easy and pleasant job. The filth, the obnoxious smell, the insects, worms and rodents are too repelling. Most of the time I fall sick due to the uncleanliness. I can’t even afford a mask.
It is funny to see the rich people wearing such dainty masks. They drive in big, luxurious cars, throw their waste around, and wear masks like hypocrites. They randomly throw half eaten food but when we ask them for food they abuse us for being nincompoops.
Life is really tough as a rag picker. After searching through tonnes of rubbish do we chance upon meagre amount of useful substance. Food in good condition is scarce. It is always stale or spoilt. The things I finds such as shoes or dresses can never be worn. I often wonder what have I done to deserve such a life! What a punishment, what a waste of childhood!
