These lines are from the poem The Frog and the Nightingale by Vikram Seth. The frog was angry that no creature liked its voice while all of them were in awe of that of the nightingale’s. So, he thought of a plan to make the nightingale get rid of its lovely voice so that no one would listen to it. He made use of the opportunity when the nightingale asked the frog feedback about its song. It is then that the frog tells the nightingale that to get a bigger audience, it must make its voice sharper and snappier while focusing on better billing at the same time.
