What “should” happen is that “Society” should take care of the vulnerable, the poor, and the aged as part of the social contract itself. In a country such as the United States, there should be no poverty at all. It is a disgrace that in the “richest country in the world”, 20% of our children live in poverty, and the growing poverty rate for everyone else is now upward of 15%.

And we as a society should most certainly do what is necessary to address and alleviate that poverty by all paying our “fair share” and that includes those who have benefited the most, the ultra wealthy class. The rich do not pay their fair share now, and it is their exemption from this responsibility that for the most part greatly increases our poverty problems.

There is absolutely no justification or excuse for any poverty at all to exist in the “richest country in the world”. The reason we do have poverty, is because of the priorities set by the billionaire class for their own benefit. Society itself owes the responsibility to the less fortunate among us. But the greed of the billionaire class exemplified by their string of tax breaks for themselves, is behind the causes of US poverty. We must stop giving them handouts and make them contribute their fair share to the improvement of the entire society
