You're escaping a labyrinth, and there are three doors in front of you. The door on the left leads to a raging inferno. The door in the center leads to a deadly assassin. The door on the right leads to a lion that hasn't eaten in three months. Which door do you choose? The best door to choose for you to escape is the door on the right which leads to a lion that hasn't eaten in three months

  • The basic idea behind this choice is that a lion who hasn't eaten in three months would have starved to death by now
  • Lions eat every three to four days and require between 5 and 7 kilograms of meat each day
  • Lions may go for more than a week without eating before tearing into prey and devouring up to 50kg of meat at a time, which is about a quarter of the animal's body weight
  • But after that, a lion cannot survive without food, and would eventually starve to death
  • A raging inferno would incinerate a person in less than a few minutes, so you should not choose the door on the left that leads to a raging inferno
  • It is less likely that a person would win a fight with a deadly assassin, and so the door in the center which leads to a deadly assassin may also not be a right choice
  • Thus, you can choose the door on the right, which leads to a lion that hasn't eaten in three months
