It is a well known concept that we Indians regard the female child to be a burden. But considering the works that women do in the house, isn't it more probable to say women are an asset to the society and domestic life? They take care of the house, more like the house can't run well without the touch of female presence.
The main conception regarding the female sex as a burden have to do with the huge need for the dowry when she gets married. But we are now living in a much more advanced age where women can work for their own living and the 'orthodox' patriarchal notion of the need to give dowry should be done away with. This is the only stumbling block that prevents us from becoming a better society. If this hindrance is put away with, then there is a possibility of the 'curse' of the girl child being completely removed. So, let us all make sure that, considering the age we are now living in, we know not to prioritize the male over the female. Only then will this 'burden' of the girl child can be overturned into a 'blessing'.
