Tryst with Peace and Beauty at Kufri /Memorable Vacation At A Hill Station

Keats has rightly said 'A thing of a beauty is a joy forever.' My first experience with something real beautiful happened, when in the last week of my summer vacation, father took the family to Kufri during the summer vacation.

The drive from Shimla to Kufri was a real treat to the eyes. On either side of the serpentine road breathtaking vistas of unmatched sylvan beauty soothed not only the eyes, but the restive soul also. Deep dells, with pure verdant slopes; idyllic, pastoral human settlements, glimpses of the far off white sheep grazing on the slopes of the mountains under the canopy of azure sky are the enthralling views one gets as a gift for coming to this paradise. I did not want the drive to end. As we neared Kufri, the mountains became taller and taller. The peace, tranquility, and spledour of the hills and its surroundings were supernal.

My father had intentionally got a hotel booked at a place where the nature was abundant. From the room window, the distant snow clad white mountains gave the illusion as if we are in a different world. At night, first time in my life I saw the magnificence of the night sky.

There are quite a many places that we can visit while being in Kufri; we had so much fun climbing Mahusa Peak on horseback, we did skiing on the snow covered slopes, the go-carting fun at Kufri Fun World was just beyond words.

The hotel we stayed at provided all types of cuisine, so naturally we opted for the Punjabi cuisine. This stay in nature replenished and rejuvenated us thoroughly. I will cherish it for a lifetime.

Answer:

Last year in the summer vacations I along with my cousin, decided to visit Mussorie a hill station in the Garhwal mountains of UP, also known as the Queen of the hills. We thus boarded the Mussorie express train from Delhi and the next morning we were in Dehradun, a city on the foothill of the mountains. The taxi ride from Dehradun to Mussorie was a two hour drive, with sharp and steep turns. The deep gorges, were enough to send a chill down one’s spine and so we desperately clung to our seats .

By 10 AM we were in Mussorie and as I stepped out of the taxi, the first thing that struck me was the cool refreshing breeze. This was a welcome change from the hot loo we had just left behind. Scampering with our baggage we set forth to the tourist lodge, which was a distance away from ‘The Mall’. By the time we reached the place we were panting for breath, but were unmindful of the exhaustion.

No sooner had we got fresh, we were ready to venture out again. As my cousin was familiar with the place, we decided to go to Gun Hill top by trolley. The trolley ride was indeed measurable for the scenic beauty down below was breathtaking. Once atop the hill we set about exploring the place, which was a tourist delight. We saw tastefully done up stalls of eatables items. The spirit of merrymaking and laughter filled the air. We also joined in the fun and got or ourselves photographed as Gabbar Singh, the legendry tinsel dacoit. By the time we returned to our lodge it was dark.

The next day we set out for Kempty Fall that is half an hour drive from Mussorie. The scene at the waterfall was indeed mesmerizing. Small droplets of water struck us on the face, even though we were standing a distance away. The place was swarming with tourists and the children were having a whale of a time, in little pools of water besides the waterfall. Their merrymaking was so infectious, that we also joined in the fun and got drenched. Luckily we had brought our clothes, so after a quick change, we sat down for a sumptuous lunch at one of the tastefully done up restaurant . We were by now tired with exhaustion and therefore decided to return, for we had also to do packing for our departure the next morning.

I now appreciate why poets and authors get their inspiration from nature, that is in abundance on these picturesque mountains. While they have the gift of conveying their sentiments, in prose or poetry, normal mortals like me can only get moved. It was with a heavy heart that we began our journey home next morning, bidding farewell to the mountains. However, in making a solemn promise, to one day again return for a longer stay in the lap of nature.

hope it helps
