I have re-asked this question. What do you do when these are kids you don't know - never ever seen before? most likely won't see again - We were recently at a park in Sunnyvale, CA with another couple and their young kids. While the kids were playing at the water fountain, we noticed a discord between two groups of kids (appeared to be jr high and not that much older). One group had slightly well built & in-shape/ taller kids that were comfortable hanging out without their shirts, while the other group was slightly out-of-shape kids that were a bit self-conscious, wearing loose clothes to cover up. They appeared to know each other ... assume they went to the same school or have interacted in the neighborhood. Clearly, the disagreement had escalated in to verbal bullying - there was quite a bit of egging on by the bullies to start a fight, discussions about what would be done to their mothers & sisters ... As others looked on, it was uncomfortable for us adults to witness everything that was going on .... we were shocked at the language that these semi-adults were using, leave alone the implications of violence. Yet, we were unsure of what we could do ... or should do. We weren't the parents of these kids, neither did we know them ... What do you do in such a scenario?
