It is a very hot day.I am sweating profusely. I am very thirsty. I stop by a road side shop to buy ice tea. A street urchin passes by begging for a penny.I give him a dollar and he sprints off. I am curious about him and decide to follow him. I see him on top of a humongous pile of garbage. I can see the pain and joy in his eyes. I give him the remaining ice tea. There are rag pickers everywhere. I am very concerned about their plight. I gather them around and query them about their situation. They inform me about the hardships they have gone through and continue to go through day by day. I learn that they earn a three dollars a day from selling scrap metal and plastic to recycling companies.

In the evening time I thought to take a walk down the park. I took my purse and left. When I was near the Sanjay bookstore I saw 2 small children working near sewage. Perhaps they were finding something. Then they took out some plastic bottles from the garbage heap and put it in their bags. One child's leg was swollen. Perhaps it was under something heavy. They looked tired. Looks like they had worked the whole day. In such a small age they were rag picking. In the age of going to schools they woked in these garbage areas to have two times of bread. I felt very bad for them and started thinking. Is this the really education that we are getting? Is this our humbleness that we let these kids work in such a tragic conditions. Then where are we going?
I felt bad for their condition. Maybe one day they'll also see the bright side of life.
