Answer:

t is intended to make you count the animals and the legs and then foolishly submit that number - which is 50 (ignoring that chickens usually don’t fly but are flying). That number will be smugly and, almost mockingly, stated to be wrong by the question asker because all the animals are on the bed (or flying in the manner that chickens don’t) so have no legs on the ground.

Another intent of the brain teaser is to have you realise the bed is on the floor and the bed has legs so you will say 4. This will be treated, by the question poser, as another opportunity to deride you for missing the obvious - see next paragraph. One of the problems with the brain teaser though is that not all beds have legs and of the beds that do have legs, not all have only 4 legs (some have 6, some have 5, or even more).

Another intent of the brain teaser is for you to realise you have just walked into the room so there are 2 legs (just yours, since now you are forgetting the bed and the question asker can act all smug and “intelligent” when they point that out).

Another opportunity for the poser (of the question) to deride you is with some inane statement about “there are no legs on the floor, only feet”.

The actual answer still cannot be defined.

The brain teaser has many other issues:

It states “You SEE a bed …”. It does not indicate that you SEE everything that is in the room. What about animals that are behind the bed or in the closet and out of sight? What about animals, like fleas, that have hopped off the cats onto the floor but you could never see.

Just because an animal is on the bed does not mean its legs are not on the floor.

Is there other furniture that might have legs?

As stated earlier, brain teasers are almost always poorly thought out. The person who writes them or poses them has a specific answer in mind, phrases the brain teaser to make that answer a little difficult to get to, and then decides that that is still the one and only answer to the problem.
