You want to make a weight ball out of concrete for the wrestling team. You have a sphere mould that has a diameter of 10 inches.

You find out that 1 cubic foot of concrete weighs 80 pounds. How much would your weight ball weight?

Answer:

Since 1 foot=12 inches

1 cubic foot=12^3 cubic inches

Hence 1728 cubic inch weigh 80 pounds.

So 1 cubic inch weighs (80/1728) pounds.

So radius of mould = 5 inches

So volume = (4×pi×r^3)/3

= (4×pi×625)/3 = (2500×pi)/3

So weight of ball

= volume/(80/1728)

= (1728×2500×pi)/3×80

= 56548.66 pounds
