I visited kufri in third week of February. If you have visited manali/Kashmir in winters, you may feel disappointed, but if not then you will definitely enjoy playing with snow here. In feb, there are very thin chances of snow in shimla, but in kufri you will get at least 2-3 feet of snow.
Once you reach kufri you will need to take a pony to reach the sight seeing point. The horse wala's charged us around 750 bucks,there was a kind of union, so it was flat. The way to the sightseeing point is very muddy and full of dung, so itz very difficult to go on foot. Is the way too dangerous-No! While coming back from the sight seeing point, due to mud, you will feel like horse will skid, but just maintain balance and enjoy the scenery on the way.
Once you reach the snow area, there is a view point where there is a very nice view of Himalayas. Other than this there is a temple on a hill. There are a lot of Maggie stalls, so you can enjoy hot Maggie, a cup of tea. If you want to play with the snow you can take gum boots and costume on rent, these are available at the point where you take ponies from.
Now the torture starts when you want to return back. You will face lot of issues finding your ponies. What they do is, they just drop you up there provide you a number and disappear. We kept calling those guys for half an hour. Finally they turned up. Advice- ensure that you get a slip from the pony wala union person when you take a horse. Because when you want to come down there is a separate queue altogether for the people with the slip, they don't have to chase the pony wala's.
All in all, I guess February is one of the best time to visit kufri, if you go in January, road are blocked due to heavy snow. In summers I doubt if Kufri has much to offer.
