Harmandir Shahib; know as Golden Temple is located in the center of the city. The gold covering around the marble structure makes it a wonderful view. Around the temple is the huge pond, which has Dukh Bhanjan Beri; location known for taking dip to cure all diseases. Museum near the entry displays the paintings and arms exhibiting the glorious history of Sikhs, founded on the sacrifice made for the religion. It is mandatory to cover your head in the premises of Gurudawara. It takes around one hour to enter the Gurdawara premises and around 30 minutes to go around the pond during normal day. My friend told me that it is crowded more during early morning prayer.
Few steps away from the golden temple is the monument of barbaric history of British Empire in India – the Jalianwala Bagh. The well which got filled with the bodies of innocent Indians during indiscriminate firing by British troops raise emotions. The bullet marks on the walls at the back of park makes it a sensational experience.
Near to these two sites is the famous ‘Bharawa da Dhabha’ restaurant , which is the benchmark of quality and reasonable price.
City has famous Durgiana Mandir, which resembles golden temple in architecture near Hathi gate. Similar to Hathi gate, city has eleven gates.
Idle way to spend evening is Wagah Border, the physical gates marking border of India and Pakistan. It is around thirty kilometers from the city railway station. The flag ceremony by armed forces of both the countries is worth watching. One can arrange VIP passes for viewing it from close distance.
Two days are sufficient to explore the city.
