Monday Mania at the Bus Stop

Come Monday  and the whole of Kolkata seems to be moving for destination-busy world.

Last Monday I had most unluckily missed my school bus. I had to rush to the nearest bus stop and it is then that I experienced the Monday Mania.

The bus stop I went to is one of the busiest ni Kolkata. University and college students, office goers, entrepreneurs and just travellers all crowd there.

I had to stand in quee after about sixty people. The line moved like a lazy snake!

Every one was talking about something or the other. The office goers were complaining it was a Monday. The middle aged were discussing politics and the follies made by the politicians.

Some young ladies were discussing fashion.

College boys were all excited about the cricket match to be played that day. Some elderly women were sharing common gossip about their disagreeable  and independent daughters-in-law.

The whole place seemed to be engulfed in a cacophony of sound. Amidst the hullabaloo were thronging hawkers selling snacks yelling their heads off.

I was more then relieved when finally I got a chance to board the bus. I promised myself never to miss the  school bus again.

Explanation:

One Monday morning, I had gone to the bus stand to wait for my school bus. As I was a bit early that morning, I had time so I began to watch and observe the people walking by. While doping so, one such incident took me by surprise.

A rather old man, not a beggar though, was walking towards the bus stand. He must have been around 90 or more of age and was already bent in posture. Since it was also rather cold, it made me wonder why he was out at a time like this. After what may have been ages for him to reach the bus stop, he sat down on the seat and gave a relieved expression. Though reluctant to approach him but still to curious to let it go, I decided to approach him. I asked him why he was out so early in the morning and his reply made me surprised and also in awe of him.  He said that he was waiting for his grandson's school bus that will go through this bus stand. And before I could ask him another question, he told me the boy lived in another part of the city and that he used to wave him goodbye from the bus stand every Monday. I was really impressed and touched by the lovely gesture. If only we all have such good relationships with our family members. It also made me realize how our grandparents love us and that we also need to look out for them. That was an amazing encounter that will stay with me for a very long time.
