GIVEN

You win 50 tickets, 12 tickets, and 16 tickets at an arcade. You are able to buy 3 of the same item with no tickets left over.

TO FIND

How many tickets does 1 item cost?

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

Let the cost of each item = x

Cost of 3 items = 3x

Total tickets won = 50+12+16 = 78

It is said that no tickets were left after buying the 3 items

Therefore,

3x = 78

x = 78/3 = 26 tickets

Hence, The answer is 26 tickets.

1 item costs 26 tickets.

Given:

Number of tickets won = 50 + 12 + 16 = 78 tickets

Number of items bought = 3 items

To Find:

How many tickets does 1 item cost?

Solution:

Number of tickets won = 50 + 12 + 16 = 78

Let the cost of 1 item be 'x' tickets.

The cost of 3 items = 3x

∵ 3 items cost 78 tickets.

∴ 3x = 78

 ∴ x = 26

The value of 'x' comes out to be equal to 26.

Therefore 1 item costs 26 tickets.
